Brown ThumbI have determined that tomatoes love abuse. In my garden, I have a designated place where I plant food. I have planted cucumbers, bok choi, broccoli, squash, pumpkin, avocado, and many other vegetables I like. I always plant seeds. Never the actual pre-grown plants. I reserve that for fruits. But none of it ever grows. I plant and hope for the best. Brown thumb has nothing on me. I can't even get a seedling to grow. I have a semblance that some plants don't do well with others and don't plant certain ones together. So I tried a different approach this time. Fertilizer. Hungryroot packages their food in a nitrate rich fluid that freezes and stays frozen better than ice. They recommend to use it on plants. So I used it on my seedlings. Low a behold, sprouts peeked from the little strip of area I designate for food! I'd just planted green beans, so I thought I was getting green beans. That's what I thought. Right up until plump, red, round cherry tomatoes sprang forth on the vine. Tomatoes are a spring thing. Right? It's December and I have so many cherry tomatoes. I love 'em. But I'm starting to hand them over to the chickens I have so many. They just keep coming. Through pouring rain. Then drought. They are now sad and wilted and they still seem to be giving out the best of their bounty. Thus, tomatoe plants like abuse. I Can RelateI thought Blood Money (WIP I'm working on now for Penn Scripter) was going to be simple. Straight forward. But it kept growing. Changing. The story could go anywhere. It's evolution is much like my garden where I thought I was growing green beans, but I'm getting tomatoes.
It's dangerously close to deadline and I don't have the first draft finished. But it's going to be good! The "tomatoes" of ideas are coming much like the tomato plant in my garden won't stop giving me cherry goodness. I'll be socializing Blood Money soon enough so stay tuned! Enjoy those tomatoes in December! Until next time... ...happy reading! ~ Stephy
