This post was "memoed" (technical term for voice recorded for a later date) for myself to give to you. I'm cleaning up my language and taking out the "ummmsss..." along with the "and...and...and..." so that you can comprehend what the hell I'm saying. Memoed's should not be heard by an audience. Much like first drafts should not be seen by editors. Here's what I memoed: So I am back from RT literally about 25 minutes ago. After unloading my stuff after driving home from Las Vegas I have some thoughts on RT. I listen to people on how it's an incredible time to be an author but also how very difficult time it is to be an author.
Writing is my path. I consider myself a storyteller, not a genre writer. I'm following the path of telling good stories. I don't go out and think about what topics are hot today and I don't chase news headlines to write about. My topics have always been about dirty stories revolving around social taboo's.
Which is why I'm attracted to the M/M genre.
Before anyone jumps down my throat and tells me I'm hopping on a hot trend, I'd like to let you know that I've been reading M/M, gay romance and Yaoi for about two years now, and I love it. Everything I read has a direct impact on what I want to write. I must be careful about what I "ingest", what I read, and what I watch. They all have influence over my storytelling. Certain topics may creep into my writing but I'm about the story itself. And I have much to tell.
So in the spirit of letting you guys know what I'm working on I'm excited to let you know about a M/M/M romance. I call it an all male manege romance. This story was a direct influence of the Yaoi manga I read. One of my favorites is CHOCO STRAWBERRY VANILLA. Please be careful clicking that link--the artwork is graphic--G-R-A-P-H-I-C. 18+ Please!!! Dear god I hope your at least 18 years old reading this. Anyway... I have a story-line that involves a teacher and two students I told you about in the last post: Good Luck Finding A Book Trailer. It's my all male menage romance and in the coming weeks I'll share more about my progress. My challenge is finding the realism while maintaining the characters and viability of the story. In June I hope to give this to beta readers and have them show me the plot holes. Luckily they have the knowledge I need to make sure the story captures the suspended-belief a writer needs. But I'd like to tell you why I decided to do this story. It's the high concept of two worlds that shouldn't meet but do. Romance in a teacher/student relationship. Yes, I expect some people to sneer at me about such a cliche, but for me the topic doesn't get old. Forbidden love is a taboo and I've always been drawn to such things. I want to figure out why they are taboos and do they need to stay that way or is it something that should be revisited by societies standards? While I agree there are some taboos that I don't ever expect to explore, there are some that I poke at, like same-sex-love and hot-for-teacher. I just happen to combine these two taboo topics. So in the coming weeks I'll be letting you know how the writing is going, and I'll be sharing some snippets with my exclusive readers group. If you're interested, see below and add yourself to my inner circle. If you do you'll receive a free story. Explore my writing and see if you like my style. If not, no worries, tell me and I won't send you another thing. It's your call! See you next week! ~ Stephy |
Welcome to The Enclave Thanks for taking a look at my little hodgepodge of a blog. The format and subjects of my blog has changed through the years as it's my log of S.N.McKibben's writing journey. You've now been sufficiently forewarned, happy reading! Categories
