Ah, the holiday that makes us appreciative of short-order cooks.
I look forward to Thanksgiving because I get to cook my old favorites and experiment on new creations. In a former life, or a potential career, I might have been a chef. But other pursuits fit me better before I could gain traction with the chemistry and alchemy of food preparation. For the things you eat heals or harms. It's interesting to find out what foods will help people lose weight, cure illness and what combinations taste best. Ahhh... alas... I now only give my family the pleasure of my culinary skills. But there is one other thing that I swear makes the food taste better. Don't laugh at me at the absurdity─laugh at the truth of it. Know what that thing is? You may not believe me but... It's Prayer. I've been saying this prayer before meals for a long time and each time I do, the food always tastes better. Now, I'm not going to go so far as saying that blessing the food brings down the angels and makes miracles over prayed over plates. But what I will tell you is that showing your "thanks" to whatever you consume shows respect and stops a person for a moment to be grateful. Gratefulness is the ingredient that tacks on another star even for mediocre meals. Gratefulness makes food taste better. With that said, I have included the prayer that I say over that which I consume so that you too will be able to include the import spice of a flavorful life. (See below) Comments are closed.
