What I'm Watching Update ♦ Heaven's Lost Property

Heaven's Lost Property

In the first five minutes I knew this was the type of perversion and silliness I needed after watching "Welcome to the NHK".

Heaven's Lost Property has a lose plot with a bunch of stories about the miscellaneous adventures of a group of friends and two Angeloid's (basically angles).

Remember, I'm talking about the anime NOT the manga. Also note that I try not to give away too much of the story and I give my impressions when I'm about halfway through the episodes so that my impressions are fresh!

PictureTomo
Tomoki Sakurai, "Tomo", (left) is the adorable yet perverted 14 year old that lives alone while his parents are away on tour somewhere. He's master to Ikaros (below) yet never displays any perverse thoughts toward Ikaros or Nymph (the other angeloid).

His motto is "Nothing beats peace and quiet" but of course barely gets any of it with two angeloid's and his friends around.

Sohara Mitsuki, "Sohara", is arguably Tomo's best friend. She has a Karate "chop" that beats sense into Tomo when he's acting like most 14 year old boys do (perverted).

However, Sohara knows that Tomo is a sweet, kind-hearted boy that became her friend when she first came to town and knew no one. She would be described as Tomo's conscious when he has none.

Picture
Sohara embarrassed at Tomo for another one of his perverted acts. She spends half the time making this face.

Eishiro Sugata is one of those guys that would find the female body fascinating in a completely scientific sense. But his preoccupation is "The New World".

He's smart and aloof but oddly loyal to his friends. It would be hard for me to choose between Eishiro and Tomo as my favorite, but I could easily watch a show dedicated to his exploits.

Eishiro, fierce, dedicated to his work and an impartial science explorer at heart -- he sure has captured mine. I can't resist a guy with glasses.

I'm also curious as to his relationship with Mikako Satsukitane. She is also fascinating and suits Eishiro very well.

I'm rooting for them as a couple.

Mikako, the Student Council President, is the daughter of the top gangster in town. She's an easy-going stone cold killer. She takes what she wants. Buys insurance on Eishiro when he decides to do crazy stunts, is great with a sniper riffle and is a bit sadistic.

I love her because she doesn't have a real care in the world. She has a great look to her just before she's about to do something wicked and she doesn't mind what others think of her. She's her father's daughter yet I think she has hidden designs on Eishiro. She's certainly a character.

She finds the Tomo/Ikaros combination interesting and hangs around Tomo because he provides amusement.

This sums up Mikako rather nicely

Speaking of Ikaros -- I didn't get to write much about her. She was sent to Tomo and after meeting him, imprinted him as her master.

She claims herself to be a "pet-class" angeloid but really is far from it. I would imagine that Ikaros is what every teenage boy would want -- busty, sexy, submissive, willing to do anything and grants wishes. She has little personality beyond melancholic but she's sweet and devoted to her master and Tomo hasn't taken advantage of that (yet).

Then there is Ikaros' polar opposite -- Nymph.

Nymph is a
Electronic Warfare Angeloid, Type Beta angeloid who was sent to recapture Ikaros but winds up falling in love with Tomo.

Nymph has a temper, an attitude and calls humans "bugs" (at the very beginning) but soon finds humans not to be so bad.

Her character arc was the only one that moved forward and kept the story line from going stale. While there are subtle hints as to Ikaros and Tomo's evolution, most the stories were full of fluff -- yet it was fluff to keep me entertained. Also, the artwork is wonderful! I do wish Tomo would be portrayed more as his adorable self, but he's constantly devolved into
Chibi. It's too bad because he's such a treasure.

In season 2 another pair of angeloids were introduced and a little more plot almost geared up to make the season interesting, but true to form, it was silly fun.

The two other characters were Astraea (left) a Close Combat-Type Delta Angeloid who was sent down to Earth, first get Ikaros's wings and then kill Tomoki.

She fails due to her horrible blunders, clutzy like manner and finally falls for our hero Tomoki and even takes up residence with Tomoki, Ikaros and Nymph.

The second angaloid sent to kill Tomoki was Chaos. The first 2nd-Generation Angeloid created, She has the looks of a child, but deep within lies a twisted monster who only wishes for your suffering.

I could imagine a few different ways this story could be, well not better, but more meaningful I suppose.

All in all I enjoyed the antics -- flying panties, machines made out of underwear, the power to become water and perv all over the girls in swimsuits, etc. But to have all that power to do nothing with it? You'd think it was time to maybe tell Synapse to cut it out already because every one you send is just going to fall for Tomoki.

Love, the best powa in the world! :)

3 stars for the beautiful art, the wonderful characters and originality of "the New World" but plot and story-line could use improvement...unless you're twelve. Which is probably the age demographic for this series.
